Rod Fishing Licences

I have submitted my application, but it has failed. What do I do?
For some people, the settings on the PC will not allow the transaction to be processed. The solution is to go into the "Tools" menu, then "Internet Options" and select the "Privacy" menu. If this is set at high, then the transaction will not take place. Set the privacy option to medium, and the application will work. Don't forget to reset the privacy option after the transaction.
What do I do if I experience difficulties purchasing a licence online?
Check any error messages that may appear and make the necessary corrections. Remember to follow all the instructions carefully. If you get really stuck, or have made a mistake with the application, you can let us know using the e-mail address below, or by telephoning our Fisheries Administration Support Team on 08708 506 506.
How do I know my online purchase has been successful?
At the end of the transaction you will receive a confirmation page with all your rod licence details listed on it. Those who supply an e-mail address will also receive a confirmation e-mail.
If you don’t receive a confirmation page, then your transaction has not been successful and you will need to begin again. How soon can I fish after I have bought my licence online?
You can fish immediately provided that the start date and time you entered on your application are before the date and time you intend to fish. Note: rod licences cannot be backdated. Your confirmation page and e-mail (if you supplied an e-mail address) will list the valid from date and time.
You do not need to wait for your licence to arrive in the post before you go fishing, but be absolutely certain to have your licence number and proof of identity with you when you fish.
How many rods does a rod licence entitle me to use?
A rod licence entitles you to fish with up to two rods and line at the same time for coarse fish and eels, but with only one rod and line for trout, sea trout, char and salmon. Always check club rules and local byelaws regarding the rod limit on the water you intend to fish.
Additional licences are required if you fish with more rods, where byelaws and rules permit.
Lost Your Licence? - here's what to do
If you have lost or damaged your rod licence, please send us brief letter explaining what has happened - for example 'it has been destroyed in the washing machine' - and tell us your full name, address, date of birth and if you have it, your licence number.
You will need to include a cheque or postal order for the replacement fee. This should be payable to the 'Environment Agency' for £5 if you have lost a full licence, or £1 for a junior licence.
